Each
year I help students think of ways to find the funds they need. Here are
seven suggestions based on some of the ways students in the past have put
it together:
1. $500 (or more if they can give
it) is what we will ask in the way of tuition from your Conference Board
of Ordained Ministry.
2. Your registration form calls
for your District Superintendent's signature and grant. District funds
for COS in Israel usually come from designated COS or CEU funds, and/or
from discretionary funds.
3. Of course, use continuing education
funds designated for you in your church budget, if available.
4. Sounds crazy, but since it's
right after Christmas time that we go each year, students ask family to
help them with the trip in lieu of a gift.
5. Allow me to write a letter to
your congregation, or to specified persons, telling them of your eligibility
to study in Israel earning required credit toward your COS ministerial
education. I have been remarkably successful in this. Almost all churches
respond, and some even pay for the whole thing!
6. There are limited scholarships
available for which you might qualify.
7. This is not a recommendation,
but just passing on information: Some students borrow it on a six or twelve
month note. |
